I’ve designed a little pumpkin1 to celebrate the upcoming holidays and change of seasons. I’m really happy with the pumpkin, but I am trying to decide whether to include a leaf in the design, and if so whether to use a small leaf or a larger one.
Check out the photos below, and cast your vote via my poll to the right.2 Thanks in advance for your help!
- The pumpkin is about 4″ tall and 3″ wide, and just under 12″ in circumference. [↩]
- If you’re like my husband and not anti-leaf per se but just don’t like the color of green I used, or if you find the poll’s answer options inadequate for some other reason, please email me your comments! [↩]
Gorgeous pumpkin. I do like the simplicity of no leaf as well. Nice yarn choice. Very “organic”. Looks like it’s in the field.
I, too, like the simple, no-leaf pumpkin. But I also think the leaf is a cute detail, which is why I was in such a quandary and asked for your input! Thanks so much for voting and sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it!
Hey, Sam! Great to see your work. Beautiful little pumpkin! I vote for the leafless pumpkin, I think. Pumpkin leaves are really big, multilobed affairs and tend to be olive green. Also, you would generally not find them attached to the pumpkin. I think it’s really appealing without the leaf. You could elaborate the stem, if you wanted a naturalistic touch?
Turning over in my mind how you would knit a pumpkin leaf, technically. Some kind of a mitre arrangement?? I couldn’t see what you did in the photo.
I really like the simple, no-leaf pumpkin but was worried that it was too plain, and since pumpkins are often depicted with leaves (albeit an unnatural depiction) I thought people might “expect” a leaf. I completely concede that the leaf is not realistic, both in shape and the fact that it’s there. 🙂 I’ll probably end up just offering the leaf patterns with the pumpkin pattern and let people choose for themselves. Thanks for taking the time to view my post, vote, and share your comments. I truly appreciate your feedback, Maureen!
